Assistant Professor

Joe Wei (he/him) has research interests in Asian American literature, critical refugee studies, literature and sociology, and poetry and poetics. He is currently working on a book manuscript titled Refugee Poetics, which draws on oral history alongside textual analysis to examine the poetry and literary organizations made by 1.5- and second-generation Vietnamese, Hmong, Lao, and Cambodian American poets. He has also created an oral history archive of Asian American poets from the 1970s to the present with support from the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.

Before arriving at UGA, Dr. Wei was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Research on Race & Ethnicity in Society at Indiana University-Bloomington.
