Creative Writing's Priyadarshini Gogoi shortlisted for Neev Book Award

Priyadarshini Oshin Gogoi's children's book When We Are Home has been shortlisted for the 2024 Neev Book Award, an annual award for the best children's literature produced in India. 

When We Are Home gives voice to the many families displaced in Assam during annual floods. Each page draws us into the world that Moromi remembers as her home. The illustrations are vivid and take us on a journey through rural Assam. The narrative is simple and powerful. The nostalgia that children feel toward their home is portrayed as is their optimism for a better future.

When We Are Home

The winner of the book award is to be announced at the Neev Literature Festival in Bangalor, India later this month. Gogoi will be conducting a writing masterclass and have a reading with book signings at the festival. 

Earlier this year, When We Are Home won the FICCI Best Children’s Book Award 2024 and was featured in the Parag Honour List 2024. It was also the winner of the Atta Galatta Bangalore Literature Festival Prize in 2023.

Neev Book AwardThe Neev Book Award (NBA) for distinguished children’s literature aims to recognize outstanding writing that leads to a fuller understanding of India, Indian lives, and Indian stories. This award was instituted in 2018, as the Neev Literature Festival extended its vision to promote and encourage high-quality children’s literature from India.

The NBA aims to raise awareness nationally and globally about original, distinguished children’s literature from India and the diaspora. It is a platform to discover stories and voices with fresh
and different perspectives. The award promotes children’s books so that Indian children may see aspects of themselves and their world reflected in the literature they read.
